K-16 foreign language education has been under enormous pressures the past few years given the dire national financial situation and budget deficits affecting education on all levels. Foreign and World Language departments on the secondary and post-secondary level face enormous challenges, including department closings, drastic reductions in languages offered, and attracting students. This workshop focuses on strategies to build and maintain vibrant language programs and departments through

  1. Effective and innovative ways to advocate the continued study of foreign languages;
  2. Positive and meaningful articulation about foreign languages in order attract and maintain languages programs; and finally
  3. Innovative program activities and outreach possibilities.
